tanabata is a holiday(well i think it last a week actully) in japan celebrating stars. They decorate shrines and trees, and then that night they hang little peices of paper with wishes on them, which are burned or left in the water after the festival. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanabatayeah annoying add >.< other guy? The esper? lol Haruhi found him randomly and thought he was cool and added him to the group, and it turned out he was an esper (psycic/fire thrower/all sorts of weird powers dude)

some people might. There holidays are kinda like ours in the sense of not everyone celebrates them the same way or at all, and not everyone even knows what there about anymore and just celebrate for the sense of tradition instead of the meaning of worshiping stars

yup. In Lucky Star they all went to a the shrine and said a prayer before eating a feist and hanging the notes thingys. In dot.hack they went to a party. I think its the festival they go to in Shana were they basicly ate fried food and had rides like the texas state fair.
